The Maternal mortality rate doubled in Texas following the closure of half the state’s OB-GYN clinics due to new abortion restrictions coming into effect September of 2011 (source, CNN)

The most common cause of death is hemorrhaging from an ectopic pregnancy. Even though treatment for ectopic pregnancies are exempt under Texas state law, OB-GYNs in-state are afraid to put themselves at risk of life imprisonment, fines and lawsuits for performing the most common treatment for this type of pregnancy or miscarriage, which is to remove tissue from the uterus.  (source, TX Tribune)
